Dean non ce la fa a vedere suo fratello in quelle condizioni, in più l'assenza del padre lo carica di un peso insopportabile all'altezza del petto. Non vuole piangere davanti a Sammy, vuole dimostrarsi forte e vuole soprattutto che il minore elabori la perdita con il suo aiuto. Ma Dean non sta bene come crede, ha bisogno di un luogo tutto suo dove rilassarsi e magari anche piangere, quindi inventa uno spazio aperto tutto suo, lo immagina, lo sogna e lo visita ogni volta che chiude gli occhi la sera. Lì è tutto tranquillo, nessuno può dargli fastidio, nessuno può dirgli cosa fare, nessuno può stressarlo perché quella è solo la sua immaginazione e niente può intaccarla. Ma il suo inconscio gli gioca un brutto scherzo, e ben presto si rende conto che quel posto dovrà condividerlo con uno strambo tizio con un lungo trench che la sua mente ha creato per diventare la sua valvola di sfogo.
